Years ago I was taught that on machines wi...Chris,<br /><br />Years ago I was taught that on machines with exchangable tool holders you do *not* loosen the collet nuts in the machine. You take out the tool holder, put that cone down into a fixture and then loosen the collet nut. From what I see in our machine shop, that is still standard practice.<br /><br />Probably for the same reason you've experienced.
