I have an Atoma 1200 and it is fine, though for flattening stones I use my Dia Flat for the most part these days.

~CAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14328401081765407624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6261993076995357307.post-59409677312452374902016-04-10T16:19:20.633-04:002016-04-10T16:19:20.633-04:00Chris,

My experience with the DMT duo-sharp diamond plates which have a colored plastic matrix on the abrading surfaces has not been good. I find that with frequent use they start to fall apart. i've never got more than a year out of one of them. And they're not especially flat and the grading of the diamond particle sizes is a bit suspect. There are better options, like DMT DiaFlat, Atoma, and others.

~CAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14328401081765407624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6261993076995357307.post-79394282734089572722015-11-16T16:48:36.518-05:002015-11-16T16:48:36.518-05:00Have you tried out any of these woodworking blade ...Have you tried out any of these woodworking blade sharpeners? I am looking for one I can use for a variety of tools but I don't really know the difference between the types. You mentioned a DMT sharpener; have you heard of or tried the Duo Sharp bench stones? The DRLP, The bronze "air craft carrier" as it is called in Japan is resurfaceable for guess how much...$325. But it is two sided, of course many of you all know one side is for tooling and one side for stone flattening. The resurfacing went from $250 the day I had taken the bait to $325 within a few months. Shapton USA sited increase in postage rates..... hmmm $75 increase??
Sorry to hear about the GRLP and the glass stones. I never understood the premise of the glass stones. why not just stick your Pro series on a piece of 1/4" glass once they thin? Probably wouldn't happen as I have seen the Pro series warp as they get thinner from use.
Shapton's product development team should have used these item's, even worn out a couple prior to releasing them. Maybe they did and released them anyhow....
Go Natural young man!
There is a great link to the right in this very amazing blog that will take you straight to Japan Blade where you will find very affordable and serviceable Atoma diamond Kannaban as well as the best value for the dollar Toishi.

I wonder if Shapton USA would offer to comment, might be hard to reach.... I personally had to drive to his house to straighten things out. 5 hours away!!

C on da BIGAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
