After such a long period of waiting I can imagine the joy you felt when after such a long time. As you found out with so much of this type of work finding the right contact can be everything and you eventually contacted that right person.
I have seen your work over many years and there no doubt they have been lucky to acquire your skills for the project.
On the flip side you may need to buy a few more Martin machines to help in the project.
SinjinAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6261993076995357307.post-51280140631997608282013-08-04T10:24:01.693-04:002013-08-04T10:24:01.693-04:00Tom,

I've already had a fair amount of time to have the mind racing and thinking about every avenue of development with the project, however now that the project scheduling has been set further back, and the wood already figured out, I would say I am at a more relaxed frame of mind.

As I mentioned, it would be great to re-use old gate material in the new gate, and at this point my expectation is that the amount of reclaimable wood is not going to be very much at all. There is also the juggling of timing for removing the old gate, a period where there is no gate (and some sort of temporary entrance in place), and the installation of the new gate which affects the reclaim question, and this has yet to be resolved. I will plan the construction as if there will be no reclaimable stock, and will happily use any that I can reclaim should that possibility arise.

~CAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14328401081765407624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6261993076995357307.post-25303489804313306402013-08-04T10:17:36.227-04:002013-08-04T10:17:36.227-04:00Joe M,

And hats off to your persistence in finding the right folks to help them out. 2015. wow, it might seem a long way out but i know if i had the job, my mind would be racing about trying to find the wood, and then think through the process.

Doubly so given your dedication towards reusing existing material. I think that just speaks volumes about how the museum has the right craftsperson for the work. Definitely want to feature the old wood in the new work. There is no English term for it but maybe in some other language: old wood mated to the new wood in a way to "bridge" and allow for continuity...only analog i can think of is with dog ownership, and how you have an older dog who will not last much longer, so you get a puppy, and somehow that overlap between lives makes everyone comfortable: the elder dog has a young'un to lick, the puppy has a role model, and the owner/steward has a more graceful transition. Sorry, i'm just waxing on because my neighbor just had to have his dog put down and now he's without a companion and so that's where my mind is....

anyway, best to you and this new work. I love watching your blog, you always have something interesting going on.

-Adam of Oakland, CAAngostura Bittershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18059116265834492301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6261993076995357307.post-2755727683885901342013-08-03T21:06:51.206-04:002013-08-03T21:06:51.206-04:00Yes congratulations Chris!
